Gute Aussichten

Hier entsteht mein kleines neues Reich. Also gute Aussichten.

Wünsche euch einen guten Rutsch und viel Glück im neuen Jahr 2018. 😊

pouch with gold

With a puzzled view ahead to the upcoming festivities( are we definitely 11/2 weeks short of  Christmas, again?!) I made this little pouch. Not sure if I will keep it for myself or make it a gift. Very old fabric...again, soft as velvet.

Recently I made this backpack. Pattern is self designed. This is the spring/ summer edition made in early September. The cut out pieces were sitting on my desk all summer long, waiting to get sewed together. Finally I got it done when summer was almost over. I actually hate not being able to get it all done in a row. But now I´m happy to have this nice new piece. I like the look of it. Often, I ride my bicycle to work, that´s when I prefer a backpack to a shoulder bag.
The thing has a strong backside and is partly lined on the inside. Which is sufficient. Bottom is leather. Outside I treated with organic impregnating agent.
By now there is another one with different colors... The outcome is completely different. I´ll show you when I can present a proper photo.

This years goal was a different one. Actually there was more sports, less sewing.
Swimming is what I do all year round.
Bike riding took lots of time, preparing for the two competitions I participated, still not fast but I love it.
Running, the most neglected and disliked discipline( by me). Well, I feel some sympathy for running now,  reason is that I did better at the second competition (first was horrible performance).

fabric philosophy

I do not move at high level when it comes down to sewing at the moment, but there are 2 things I want to show you. First there is this sack which keeps daughters ballet belongings, such as shoes and dress...

Can be used for other stuff as well, like what you need for school or swimming or night walking, you know...
Bottom is made of jeans fabric, taken from a pair of old pants. Just cut off its legs, so that one might become shorts for summer.
Actually this 100% cotton sort of jeans fabric might get rare more and more. Because in many women's departments of fashion stores nowadays you find jeans with a polyester share only. There are advantages to wear the stretch kind, of course. I have these pants in my closet as well. But I wear them one day, then pants get out of shape and start to develop a "smell" the next day already. I like the feeling of the 100% cotton kind much more, well, call me old fashioned for that...
Good bye to times when sweaters and T-shirts were definitely made of 100% cotton. (Prices for those still found seem to be at a much higher level though)
Is there a economic connection among the low price of mineral oil at these times and a higher share of polyester in clothes? Tell me if you can proof me to be completely wrong!

Next item is a scarf. Other people might sew curtains out of that voile cotton. When I walked by that fabric at the Swedish store I heard it scream at me: "I want to become a loop". So easy to make and I love to wear it.

Recently I made these mittens. Fabric is heavy cotton, lined with thermolam.

vintage clutch

The fabric of this clutch might be about 50 years old. Its fiber is all polyester I guess and shiny if it get´s hit by light. This winter was the time to work with it. A small piece of fabric out of a samples catalog for home deco, maybe from the sixties of last century.
To make it become a clutch might have been a good decision....there were not many more options anyway, because of its small size ...
For the first photo I put the clutch on the surface of our little pond, which is deeply frozen at the moment.

Ice, grown on leaves

I got a lens set to clip on my smartphone. This allows me to make photos with macro, fish eye or wide range. The quality is amazing. Such a nice toy to play with...
